Annually, the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) hosts a Thought Leadership Conference, where it gathers leaders and experts in pension funds, investment, and economic policy decision-makers in Africa and across the globe. It is a platform that was created to promote knowledge-sharing and thought leadership in the global pension funds industry as well as a platform to enable participants to connect with new and existing pension networks. Since its inception in 2018, the conference has hosted over 1500 delegates, more than 150 speakers who are change makers, reformers, leaders, and visionaries in their respective industries, all representing more than 20 countries. The 8th edition of the GEPF Thought Leadership Conference 2026, will take place at Sun City Convention Centre, Northwest Province between 02 – 03 November 2026.

The Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF) is responsible for managing the pensions and other benefits on behalf of government employees in South Africa. It is Africa’s largest pension fund with more than 1.2 million active members, in excess of 565 221 pensioners and beneficiaries and assets under management worth R2.65 trillion as of 31 March 2025. The GEPF is one of the largest investors in the South African economy including being the single largest investor in Johannesburg Stock Exchange-listed (JSE) companies. Established in May 1996, the GEPF is a defined benefit pension fund, with more than 320 participating employers. The sole purpose of the GEPF is to protect the interests of its members and pensioners while ensuring that the pension funds under its administration is responsibly invested and accounted for.
